Pickleball is a sport created in the mid-1960s in the United States and is considered one of the fastest growing sports in the country, where it has experienced a significant increase in participation and recognition in recent years, with an estimated 36 million people playing it regularly, from youth to adults.
Pickleball combines elements of tennis, paddleball, badminton and ping pong, and can be played on a variety of surfaces, such as tennis courts, badminton courts or even school playgrounds where the ground is firm. The Pickleball court has a length of 13.41 m. by 6.10 m. wide.
Pickleball is extremely popular in the United States where they have a large number of tournaments and competitions, from local and regional tournaments to national and international events. The sport’s accessibility, ease of learning and fun have contributed to its massive growth. Another reason for Pickleball’s popularity in the United States lies in its inclusive nature, as it can be played by people of all ages, abilities and levels of play, offering adapted variants for people with physical disabilities, making it an accessible activity for all.
Pickleball is played in singles and doubles, the latter being more popular, where players use a combination of forehand, backhand, volley or smash shots to win points. To play Pickleball, you will need a ball made of hard material with holes and a racket similar to a ping pong paddle but larger and with a solid surface. Matches can be played to the best of 3 or 5 sets, using a scoring system similar to tennis, where players score up to 11 points to win a set, with a difference of at least 2 points.
The Registry of Pickleball Professionals – RPPk was launched in the United States in 2021 to offer training, certification and professional accreditation programs, as well as comprehensive services so that the technicians of the teaching of this sport can perform their work with total security and guarantee. During 2023 it arrives in Europe through the European Registry of Pickleball Professionals – RPPk Europe based in UK, and in Spain through the Registro Profesional de Pickleball – RPPk, with the same purpose.
